TT Patton continues journal writing workshops located right in the shop. The students write in the lower level in the room WRITE UNDER THE STAIRS. Adults have also used this space for calligraphy classes. When classes open, they will be available for registration online. You can also stop in or call to register, at 847-277-0073.

A Taste of Calligraphy
For those who want to “just try” calligraphy or just want to write with flair in 2012, this class is for you!
This “Taste of Calligraphy” offers the beginning student a chance to try a broad-edged calligraphy pen and to learn the basics of the Italic Alphabet.
Understanding pen angles, using correct writing proportions and practicing the construction of letterforms are the objectives of this class.

No worries. Come write with Nancy Becket right here at TT Patton. It’s a free write so we’ll discuss plots and point of view, one on one or as a group! Whatever you need. Bring your pen and paper, ipad or even your laptop, whatever you want…just write!

Who’s Nancy Beckett?
Nancy Beckett is an award-winning playwright, founder of Lakeside Writing Studio in Chicago (1997) and author of Branches: Writing About Friends, Family & Relationships. Currently, Nancy teaches sketch comedy at Second City Training Center and Columbia College Chicago. Beckett’s creative license is inspired by obtaining an MFA from the Yale School of Drama, writing fiction with Molly Daniel’s in her Clothesline School classes at University of Chicago and earning a Developmental Writing certificate in Adult-Ed. Nancy’s teaching methods combine improvisation, reading-as-a-writer and collaboration to bring people together in the writing process.
What’s NaNoWriMo?
National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) challenges you to write a 50,000-word novel, from scratch, in the month of November. It’s a global, uproariously fun endeavor, where participants exchange advice and writing tips on the NaNoWriMo website and in real life, with group write-ins held in coffeeshops, living rooms, and libraries all around the world. In 2010, 200,500 people took part in National Novel Writing Month.www.nanowrimo.org
Fall Calligraphy
For over 30 years, Dena Bellows has explored the 26 distinct letters of our alphabet. From designing custom invitations, maps, menus, books, greeting cards and custom quotations to addressing envelopes or place cards.
Students will leave the class understanding the formation of lower and upper case lettering and the fundamentals to construct words and phrases.
Dena has taught several calligraphy classes with TT Patton, for adults and kids!
