What happens in summer camp?
Here what our kids have to say about the summer writing camps at TT Patton.
2012 SUMMER CAMPS – OPEN
It’s our 4th summer to offer summer writing camps for students, and this year we’ve enhanced our class selections and included collaboration with Barrington Martial Arts. Read through the summaries and then take a look below at class schedule. Ready to select now? REGISTER ONLINE!
CREATIVE WRITING [CW] Grades 4th-7th, limited to 10 students
This camp will teach interested youths variations of writing techniques. The program includes lessons that will give participants a sense of understanding and confidence when they write independently. Having fun while learning something new is top priority. The program includes instruction in the fields of journaling, non-fiction, fiction and poetry as well as practicing different writing styles, learning about character development and about plot mapping. Sessions will introduce students to fountain pens and how to write with them, letter writing and why it is important to send hand-written notes, and the history of the Postal Service.
SHORT STORIES [STO] Grades4 4th-7th, limited to 10 students
This camp will help aspiring writers build a story. They will learn how to take their rough idea and present it in an interesting and ready to read format. By the end of this program, each writer should have a finished or a close to finished short story. The bulk of this class will be writing.
WRITING WITH DISCIPLINE [MA] Grades 4th-7th, limited to 10 students
This program includes detailed instruction for writers on how to construct different pieces, from creative writing to short stories. With the use of guided prompts, students will learn how different forms of writing are constructed and how to begin and end a piece. Sessions will also introduce students to fountain pens and how to write with them. After a brief break and lunch students will be
taken to Barrington Martial Arts where they will participate in a 1 hour martial arts class. While having fun, students will be taught speed, balance and coordination drills, various blocks, strikes and kicks. They will also learn self-defense from various situations and how to resolve bully situations in a non-violent way. At the end of the week, students would earn their certificate of completion and receive their yellow belt.
Supplies, lunch, and yellow belt testing fees are included.
WRITING WITH MOLLY SUMMER SATURDAY [MK]
Grades 4th-7th, limited to 10 students
With a BA in English Literature from Western Kentucky
University, Molly returns as our Creative Writing Specialist and will teach the Saturday writing classes this summer. This camp is just as much for young writers as it is for our camp instructor from the past two summers, Molly. In each day of these camps, participants will work towards completing a writing project, learn about other cultures and that culture’s writing styles, as well as learn their own unique style of writing.
Molly, brings experience in writing including her first published short story THE AGE OF MATURITY and her overwhelming positive reviews from her previous classes taught at TT Patton.
Can’t decide? No worries! Classes are scheduled throughout the summer so you can take more than one! Register today to confirm your seat!
